"Goida!" [a Russian propaganda war cry]
"Goida!" is a war cry used in Russian propaganda and nationalism. As The Moscow Times reports (linked below), this word has long roots in the Russian language and culture as a cry to violent action. Memes invoking this phrase will often portray the speaker of the word as insane or delusional. This phrase especially rose to popularity after a speech by Russian actor and director Ivan Okhlobytsin on Red Square, where he riled up the crowd with the “old Russian exclamation.” He delivered this speech in September 2022 at an event celebrating the Russian state’s claim to have united Russia with the occupied territories in the Donbas, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia.
