SUCHO Meme Wall War crimes tribunal
Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, many have called for the establishment of a war crimes tribunal against Russian President Vladimir Putin and his allies. In March 2023, the International Criminal Court, which is based in The Hague, Netherlands, issued an arrest warrant for Putin and Maria Lvova-Belova, the Russian Commissioner for Children's Rights (link to Wikipedia article below). Memes about a war crimes tribunal will often use the terminology in a threatening manner toward Putin, or they will express glee at the prospect of a war crimes trial against the Russian president. Because of the Russian pronunciation of The Hague as Gaaga, many memes will reference or invoke the American singer Lady Gaga. Memes about The Hague, similarly, will sometimes include images of geese; in Russian, geese make the sound “ga-ga-ga,” which bears phonetic similarity to the Russian pronunciation, Gaaga.
