WWII Victory Day (May 9)

Memes invoking WWII Victory Day often refer to the annual parade commemorating the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany. Within the Russian popular imagination and state policy, Victory Day is a very important holiday and a cornerstone of the veneration of the Soviet Union’s role in WWII (link to Wikipedia page below). These memes will often display the parade as either sparse or populated by caskets, both as a result of Russia's war against Ukraine. There are also often references to Russia's rhetoric toward the so-called "denazification" of Ukraine, implying that Russia has become a Nazi-like state, despite the Soviet Union's previous war against Nazis that WWII Victory Day celebrates.
