Katz (Maxim)

Maxim Katz (born 1984) is a Russian opposition politician, urban planner, and public figure. Katz began his political career working for Alexey Navalny’s political campaigns and later as a deputy on the municipal council of Moscow's Shchukino district and became recognized for his progressive views and criticism of government corruption and lack of transparency.Maxim Katz is one of the most prominent opposition YouTubers in Russia (2.23M subscribers as of June 2024). Katz had to emigrate from Russia after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. In July 2022, he was included in the register of “foreign agents”. Katz was sentenced in absentia to eight years in prison for dissemination of ‘’fakes’’ about the Russian Armed Forces for a video on his YouTube channel about the murder of civilians in occupied Bucha.
