Metropolitan Pavel Lebid (also spelled Lebed) was the head of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, the most important religious institution in Ukraine, and a clergy member of the Ukraine Orthodox Church, which was previously loyal to the Moscow Patriarchate after the Authocephaly of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (link to article below). In 2023, the Lavra was raided by Ukrainian authorities under the accusation that Metropolitan Pavel supported Russia. Memes about Metropolitan Pavel tend to mock his fall in stature — from Metropolitan to being under house arrest — and imply that God, too, is mocking him for supporting Russia.
