SUCHO Meme Wall Navalny (Alexei)
Alexei Navalny (1976-2024) was a jailed Russian opposition leader. He was the subject of the award-winning 2023 film Navalny. Despite his opposition to Russian President Vladimir Putin, Navalny is not especially adored in Ukraine because of comments he made about Ukraine’s demands that Russia return Crimea to Ukraine. In these comments, Navalny said Crimea is not a sandwich that can just be taken and given back. Memes will often invoke a sandwich in reference to these comments. Memes also pointed out that Navalny was kept in prison alongside Igor Girkin (AKA Igor Strelkov), a jailed pro-Russian figure who supported Evgeny Prigozhin in his brief mutiny.Navalny died in prison on February 16, 2024.
