Templates from this category use stills from two wildly popular Soviet animated shorts featuring Karlson (Karlsson-on-the-Roof, a character from books by Swedish author Astrid Lindgren): Junior and Karlson (Малыш и Карлсон, 1968) and Karlson returns (Карлсон вернулся, 1970). These images usually feature an assertive Karlson delivering punchlines in a dialog with shy Junior. Memes also play up Karlson’s ability to fly and compare him to a drone. The Karlson templates became particularly relevant in connection with Tucker Carlson’s interviews with V. Putin (February 2024) and A. Lavrov (December 2024), due to the identical pronunciation of the names of the journalist and the character.
