Memes about the Russian warship tend to relate to one of two sets of events. More recent memes tend to refer to the sinking of various warships of Russia's Black Sea Fleet by Ukrainian Armed Forces. These memes often feature a banana, following the commentary by a Russian pro-war blogger Thirteenth after another ship was sunk: “I don't want to comment on this. Because if this continues, then the Black Sea Fleet will only have catamarans and rubber bananas for vacationers.”Earlier memes about Russian warships refer to Moskva, symbolically and strategically important battleship which Ukrainian military forces were able to sink in April 2022, an event seen as a major early victory for Ukrainian forces in their fight against Russia's invasion. Many memes quote a communication between the Moskva and a Ukrainian border guard on Snake Island, in which the guard, Roman Hrybov, told the Moskva "Russian warship, go fuck yourself" ("Русский военный корабль, иди на хуй") on February 24, 2022, the first day of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. This phrase instantly became a slogan of Ukrainian resistance against Russia both in Ukraine and abroad.
