Sanctions and import substitution

Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, many countries around the world imposed sanctions against Russia. Many international companies, such as McDonald's and IKEA, ceased operating in Russia. In McDonald's case, a Russian-owned replacement, known as "Tasty and that's it" ("Вкусно и точка"), appeared. Memes about sanctions and import substitution tend to emphasize the inferior replacements for pre-war products and businesses. These memes will also often point out the deteriorating quality of life in Russia as a result of these sanctions.
